Seeking to confirm this ASAT Classic Custom

Fri Nov 27, 2015 2:52 pm

Any information is appreciated. I recently purchased this ASAT from a major retailer in Texas. They said their purchaser bought it from an estate sale. It looks a lot like a '96-97 ASAT Classic Custom.

Notes:
1. The 3-screw neck plate, however the plate is missing the G&L stamp and a serial number.
2. The single piece bird's eye maple neck is pretty nice!
3. Blue transparent finish on the body.
4. A 3-position selector switch with a white knob.
5. The plain white pick plate but it looks layered so that it has a black inner layer sandwiched by white layers.
6. It came with a tweed Fender hard case.

This is my first post. I'll add photos if I'm able to edit it. Any comments are appreciated.

If it is an ASAT Classic Custom ('96-97) then it's been tweeked. The big issue is the blank neck plate, since, as you mention, should have the serial number.
The pickguard has been chenged from the white perloid one. And if the case is a Fender tweed case, that would not be stock either.

Please post some photos of this guitar, front, back and the case, too.

No, it's not an ASAT Classic Custom model. It is an ASAT Classic with some options:
Birdseye Maple neck, double bound body, Blueburst finish (Premier finish) on Swamp Ash body.
Odd about the neckplate, without the serial number and G&L logo.

1996-97 ASAT Classic Custom model features:
Bookmatched Ash Top, Alder Back, Top Wood Binding, Back Body Contour, White Pearloid pickguard.

You might check the case for any paperwork, such as the Certificate of Authenticity which would have the serial number hand written on it.

Hope this helps.

It's a great help! Thanks for the comments. Opened up the instrument with my luthier yesterday and was happy to see the neck plate was simply (strangely) installed backwards. In case it's not clear in the photo, the text on the inside of the neck says:
"AUG 09 1995"
"ASAT CC"
"Birds #2"
Also, the SN from the plate is G038934
