That's a gorgeous bass. Clear blue over ash is a timeless look.

Are you sure about that serial number? It seems way too low for a neck plate stamp. Anything starting with B001 would have been back in the days when the numbers were stamped on the bridges, which were way before L-2500 came out. My '81 L-2000E has a serial number starting with B005, and that one was stamped on the bridge.

Serial number is correct. The 6-bolt plates (chrome and black crinkle) had their own unique serialization and don't fit into to the 3-bolt B-series scheme. That bass was made in late 1996 or early 1997.

Greg,

Thanks for the info. I can't see any difference in format between the bridge/three-bolt plate and the L-2500. Does that mean that some L-2500s have the same serial number as a Leo-era instrument?

No difference in format so yes, there will be duplicate serials. Therefore, you need to know the model to put the s/n into context for dating.

Thanks, it's all a bit confusing. I'm thinking from all of the info I'm getting from different sources is that it's likely a 95-96 instrument
