Some arty concert footage....

The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.

Some arty concert footage....

Post by blargfromouterspace »

....well, it's in black and white  This was taken a week or so ago. We backed local singer Mick Pealing as he sang the repertoire of his old band, Stars', for the first time since a legendary 1980 concert, which our bass player attended. I hadn't heard of the band before - I wasn't born for another couple of years after said concert - but they had some fantastic songs. We had a fun night playing great songs to a sold out venue, it's definitely a career highlight for me.

I'm playing my Bluesboy into my Sherlock amp. No effects except a Bad Bob boost for the solo which comes in around the 2 minute mark. Sadly my guitar doesn't get a lot of screen time :(

And a rockier number. Dirt is from a Rat clone. Yeah.

Wow, congratulations to you and the band.

In case anyone is in doubt, Stars were a pretty big deal in their day – moreso than the Wikipedia article suggests - until they were cut short by the illness and death of Andy Durant. Their other guitar player Mal Eastick has long been one of my favourite Aussie players. They were one of those rare acts that well respected by the public, critics and other players.

We still bafe a couple of Stars tunes in the set lists for one of my band's formats. Look After Yourself is a bit of a favourite and always a crowd pleaser.

I’m sure Mick would have had no problems putting a class band together so kudos to you guys for being that band. And kudos to you for delivering.

Awesome.

Cheers, Robbie

jamie, wow, i really enjoyed this. the singer has a great voice. your guitar sounded great as well, loved the tone. post some more vids if you can. the second song reminded me of queen, but that is not a bad thing at all.

Thanks very much guys, glad you enjoyed it.

Robbie - We did 'Look After Yourself', what a song. Why it doesn't get any airplay on radio is beyond me. Tough for me to pick a favourite, 'Redneck Boogie', 'Jive Town', 'Song For the Road' and three or four more are up there

Once I'd learned a bit about Stars and thus the contact list Mick must have I began to wonder if it was some sort of a joke, just like in the film 'The Dinner Game'
Wikipedia wrote:Pierre Brochant, a Parisian publisher, attends a weekly "idiots' dinner", where guests, who are prominent Parisian businessmen, must bring along an "idiot" who the other guests can ridicule. At the end of the dinner, the evening's champion idiot is selected.
Louis - Mick has an incredible voice, I actually think he sounds as good if not better now than on the original recordings from the '70s. You can see why professional singers refer to their voice as their instrument. I hadn't really picked up on the Queen similarities, but now it seems obvious. I'll post more as they become available, at this stage it's all videos that were shot from crowd members, but the sound guy had a camera rolling all night, as well as recording individually tracked instruments. They should be better

That is some great stuff Jamie! Instead of Queen, the second song reminds me more of some of the Paul Rogers led bands (Free and Bad Company) the more due Mick's great voice. But pretty gift riffing in any case.

Good stuff. I'd like to see more.

Having never heard of Stars, this makes me wonder how much other cool stuff is out there, all over the world.

Nice playing, as well.
