The place to discuss, post photos, video, and audio of the G&L products (US instruments, stomp boxes, etc.) produced after 1991, including the amps & gear we use with them.
just got this today, opened the box myself and it's perfect. I've grabbed Legacy after Legacy but have always wanted an S-500. I got a chance to design a new guitar and this has all the features I wanted: #1D modern V neck in tinted gloss, rosewood board, alder body, Saddlelock bridge and the cool Spanish Copper Metallic finish. First one came with a satin neck and I wanted tinted gloss, so this was the second guitar for my order. The original one has the full headstock decals, but this one just got a "G&L" on the headstock and that's it! The rest of the decals must be laying on a bench somewhere. Fine with me, I like it a lot more like this and makes it a tad more "custom". It's a really nice weight and can't wait to make it work. The two tone grain of the rosewood board is sure nice looking too, will be interesting to see how it looks after I use the Fret Doctor oil on it.
Will be taking good pictures of it tonight but here's something I did outside since it was so nice out.
That's gorgeous. I haven't seen Spanish Copper Metallic in person, but when I've mulled over building a fretless G&L bass it is one of my top choices (especially with a rosewood fingerboard). What do you think about the tone?
nice and full Ken, but I'm a MFD superfan. The mini toggle settings really make it full. Much more pronounced than the switch on my Comanche. As predicted, a bit darker than Alnicos but to my ear that's what is good about them. I need to adjust the pole pieces a bit but I always take a while getting a guitar how I like it.
beautiful !!..... cool headstock one of a kind for sure Spanish copper is a cool color ....I can't wait to get my saddle lock guitar , should have my first coming in the mail now
I am a huge fan of S-500's. That Spanish Copper looks really awesome. The hardtail, fretboard and model decaless headstock work to make that a special guitar.
Gloss necks are great for my dry hands! And the #1D (modern V) neck is one that I wish they'd had years ago, it's all I will get with a new G&L anymore.
So fun to play a hardtail in this shape, I'm pretty aggressive on bends and most of these I have to crank the trem down to the body to keep it from moving when doing it. The Saddle lock does it's job perfectly on this
Yup, you chose wisely. That colour is growing on me. Can't go wrong with an S-500. I also look forward to a tone report. I really like matching headstock colours with rosewood boards.
