Just a little video about amp EQ

I found this vid on youtube. I know most of this is common knowledge to most of you, but the bit close to the end about MIDS is really good.

Sorry for the double post, but "let your ears tell you what is right" are the truest words

He's right about the midrange. It's the most important frequency for guitar. Get away form the 'scooped mid' sound as soon as you can!

Seeing as I play a Boogie Mark V, I am no stranger to mids :happy0007: . The way I play with these things to teach myself is with the graphic EQ, either in the amp (in power section) or in your effects loop. Dial them all the way up, and down, see what difference it makes in your set sound (one slider at a time).

The part about bass isn't exactly true, your low mids are more to the thickness than the actual 'bass frequencies' of the guitar. The reason mids are so prominent in guitars is that there is very little fundamantal in the note of the guitar. What you are hearing is for the largest portion overtones, which lie in the mids. There is very little below 80-100 Hz on a guitar. I suppose I should take it easy on him as he is just using a 3 band parametric with no sweep or Q control :happy0007:
