Welcome to the
G&L® Discussion Page (or
G&LDP for short), an exclusive feature of the web's first
and only official
G&L enthusiasts website,
www.guitarsbyleo.com (or
GbL for short)!!
This site is dedicated to the innovative guitars and basses that
Leo Fender† and
his long-time associate,
George Fullerton, created during the last decade of Leo's
career and lifetime, and to the
G&L tradition of innovation and hand craftsmanship that
continues in the
G&L lineup today. The
G&LDP is your meeting place to discuss all
things related to
G&L products.
G&L guitars, basses, amps, pedals, and other brand
amps and gear we run them through are all fair game! If you want to talk about non-musical topics,
go the
G&LDP's
Off Topic forum.
Note: The
G&LDP forum software requires a separate registration, you will not be able to use your
GbL login.
Here is the
G&LDP (aka
G&L Forum)
registration link. As a means of preventing spambots, we ask a question
during the registration/first login. The question will be easy for a human to answer and hopefully impossible
or at least difficult for a spambot to answer. Also, if a member fails to login successfully after three attempts,
the member will be asked this question on their next attempt.
Background: This site was originally created by
Brad W. Traweek. It is a continuation
of his original
G&L tribute page developed in mid-1997 while he was a student at the University of
Arizona, and its structure, features and content have continually improved under his creativity and technical
expertise since its inception. On October 16, 2000, this site went under the stewardship of
G&L's own
Dave McLaren. The discussion forum on the site originally debuted on March 4th, 1998.
This is
version 2.0 and debuted on March 1, 2010.
Rules: We have rules which are simple and will be enforced to maintain a positive atmosphere. Participants
are expected to treat others with respect, kindness, and consideration, including
G&L and other
manufacturers. No discussion of
politics,
religion,
sexual orientation,
racial, or
ethnic topics are allowed. Keep the content and language at
PG-13 level. Offending posts will be deleted, and the
participant may be notified privately by email. Subsequent posting to the
G&LDP regarding a private warning
from the
Admin will likely result in suspension or revocation of posting privileges.
Retail Prices: In keeping with
G&L's own policy regarding publication of retail prices, please do NOT post
actual sale prices of new
G&L/BBE instruments and products on this site. Example 1: "I found a new ASAT
for $699 - is this a good price?" Example 2: "How much did the '99 GbL_LE actually sell for?" Such posts will
be deleted or modified by the
Admin. Posting prices on
used instruments, however, is fine, just make it
clear that you are listing the price for a
used instrument. If your post is not clear than I will edit out the price.
Posting Photos: In order to share a GIF or JPEG image in a post on the
G&LDP, the tricky part is
that you have to actually have that photo located on a web server somewhere. That's actually not as
complicated as it sounds, though - there are numerous services out there that will do this very thing for you
and closely guide you through the process... take a look at Photobucket.com, Picassa, Flickr, and PhotoPoint,
for example. (note: Do an internet search on "free photo hosting" to find other free photo hosting services).
With the update to the new Gallery on
guitarsbyleo.com, you can now upload
G&L images to your
own photo album and then post them here on the
G&LDP. We do ask that you limit the photos you upload
to
G&L instrument images, as we do have a limited amount of disk space. For details on the Registered
Users Gallery, take a look at the
Registered Users Gallery.
(
Important Note: some services like PhotoPoint let you create "photo albums"; in this case, when
submitting a post, you'll want to use the
URL tags so that you can include a link to your photo album.
The instructions below only apply when you have the URL to a single GIF or JPEG image and would actually
like to embed that image within your post.)
Anyway, once you've submitted the photo to one of these hosting services you'll be able to access it with
your web browser by means of its URL (for example,
http://www.myhostingservice.com/myusername/myphoto.jpg);
the hosting service will provide this URL to you. Using the
Img tags, include the URL path provided between
the
Img tags. If your image does not display fully during Preview, you should use the
thumb= tags which will
place a thumbnail image of your photo as a link to the full size image. If you are posting a large photo
greater than 1024 pixels wide X 1300 pixels high, you must use the the
thumb= or
timage= tags with
the size no bigger than "1024,1300", which will place a resized image of your photo as a link to the full size image.
Also, make sure the URL path is to an image file, not an album or slideshow. If you don't see the image when you
Preview your post, something is wrong. If you get the
Your images may only be up to 1024 pixels wide.
message, try doing another
Preview. There is a known bug when the image is hosted by photobucket
and, if the photo is smaller than 1025 pixels wide X 1301 pixels high, it should be displayed with this re-previewing.

For Sale / Wanted Items: We hope that the
guitarsbyleo.com site will be the first place anyone who is
interested in buying, selling, or trading a
G&L will turn to. As such, we've set up a totally free
Marketplace.
"For Sale", "For Trade", and "Wanted" ads are not allowed on any of the
G&LDP forums. The reason we've adopted
this policy is that we'd like to prevent ads from weighting down the
G&LDP forums. The added side benefit,
of course, is that we hope that this policy will keep the
Marketplace page thriving. We also ask that any G&L instrument
being posted for sale or trade in the Marketplace be added to the G&L Registry prior to posting the Ad. Please limit
the number of concurrent ads to five (5) items or less. And, if you want to post a Public Service Announcement (PSA)
regarding a
G&L instrument or parts seen on one of the many auction and selling sites, AND you are not the seller,
put your PSA posts in the
Public Service Announcements forum.
Official Lunch Reporter: In addition to the guitar-related information you'll find on this site,
you'll also get a fascinating glimpse into the everyday diet of the
G&L enthusiast. The first
lunch report occurred many years ago during beta testing of the
G&L Discussion Page - we
laughed and we cried as we learned the details of Brad Traweek's tasty chicken sandwich, in all of
its Monterey-Jack-cheese-and-sesame-seed-bun glory. Brad had also brought some fig newtons
that day, and reported that they were quite satisfying as well. Have you noticed that fig newtons
taste kind of crunchy?
Anyway, despite this modest beginning, in-depth lunch reports soon became a prominent feature of
the
G&LDP, so we felt it prudent to create the office of
Official G&LDP Lunch Reporter in order to streamline the hundreds and hundreds of lunch reports that were pouring in each day.
The enthusiast lucky enough to be nominated to the position serves a term of precisely one business
week in length - note that this amounts to five full days packed with the lunch information you need
to know, brought to you at no charge by said enthusiast.
And from
Section VIII.22.357-revision.8.2012 of the manual... and I quote:
At the completion of a term of service [in the office of Lunch Reporter], the enthusiast in question is
not eligible to again perform Lunch Reporting duties for a period of four (4) weeks.
As of August 2012, the nomination procedure has been replaced in favor of a completely volunteer
signup process.
The Admin will post a separate "Call for Weekly Lunch Reporter for month day-month day"
Announcement in the Weekly Lunch Reports sub-forum, for each week of a multiple month period.
Any eligible member may sign up for the week of their choosing by posting a follow up to the
Call post for that week indicating they accept the call. This then will close the call for that week.
Should the member need to withdraw from that chosen week, they may delete their acceptance
post any time
before the Saturday prior to start of that week. This will allow another member
to sign up prior to the Sunday Maintenance time (between 9pm - 11pm) when the Global Lunch
Reporter Announcement is posted. Should a week come along without anyone signed up, it will
automatically become an
Open Mic Lunch Report week.
Beginning in 2008, each
Lunch Reporter will be given a
BBE Stomp Box after completion
of their term. Lunch Reporters will only be eligible to receive one Stomp Box per 12 month period. One of
the webmasters will contact the outgoing Lunch Reporter and make arrangements for shipping the LR's
choice of a
BBE/G&L Stomp Box from a list of choices to be provided.
If you feel that further clarification regarding the office of
Official G&LDP Lunch Reporter is needed,
please do not hesitate to post to that effect, in the
G&LDP forum and guitarsbyleo.com site Discussion sub-forum.

know in the
G&LDP forum and guitarsbyleo.com site Discussion sub-forum.
